Claudette James

Board Member

Born and raised on the Northside of Minneapolis, Claudette James comes from a legacy deeply rooted in faith, leadership, and service. Her great-grandmother, Mother C.E. Parker, was the first Black female pastor on the Northside and the founder of Rehoboth Apostolic Church — a pillar of strength and community that continues to inspire generations. Following in those footsteps, Claudette’s parents later became pastors of Faith Pentecostal Church, where her own passion for serving others began to grow.

Throughout her life, Claudette has been an active force in community engagement — volunteering with before- and after-school programs, mentoring youth, and participating in outreach initiatives that strengthen families and neighborhoods. Her exceptional leadership, hands-on experience, and unwavering commitment to learning make her an invaluable member of the Solid Roots Board.

Claudette is dedicated to empowering individuals and families, particularly those impacted by incarceration, helping to ensure Solid Roots remains a beacon of growth, healing, and excellence within the community.

Outside of her community work, Claudette enjoys mentoring young people, reading, traveling, cooking, and visiting art museums. A proud supporter of local sports, she can often be found cheering on the Minnesota Vikings, Lynx, and her favorite football teams — from high school to college. Most of all, she treasures spending time with her grandson.
